You won't find this neighborhood by searching

If you're moving to Southern California and running searches from another state, Del Rey is almost certainly not on your list. Not because it doesn't suit you, but because you can't search for something you've never heard of.

It's worse than that. Del Rey addresses carry mail city names that aren't Del Rey, and portions sit in 90230 and 90291 rather than the dominant 90066. So a search built around Culver City or Marina del Rey may surface Del Rey homes without ever telling you that's where they are, and a search built around the neighborhood name surfaces very little.

People relocating routinely spend months on a shortlist that structurally excludes one of their better options.

What it actually is

2.7 square miles of post-war single-story homes, low apartment courts, light industrial blocks, and newer infill, inland of Marina del Rey, north of Playa Vista, south of Mar Vista, with Culver City to the east.

What you get is one of the few Westside pockets where you can walk to the Ballona Creek path, ride to the beach in about twenty minutes, and pay materially less than two blocks north in Mar Vista or two blocks west in the Marina.

What you give up is walking distance to the sand and a uniform streetscape. The mixed stock is real and it isn't for everyone. From two thousand miles away it's impossible to judge, which is exactly why it needs walking rather than browsing.

How this works from out of state

Video walkthroughs where I'm the one standing in the house telling you what the photos aren't showing. Remote signing. Every vendor coordinated on the ground here.

One client sold a rental from another state and put it plainly: Bobejo handled EVERYTHING. Anything that came up, she had it taken care of. Buying remotely runs the same way.

One thing to confirm rather than assume: school assignment follows the address here, not the ZIP code, and this is the neighborhood where that assumption goes wrong most often.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Del Rey barely show up in my searches?

Because addresses here carry mail city names that aren't Del Rey, and the area splits across 90066, 90230, and 90291. Searching by city name or ZIP either misses it or mislabels it, so a lot of relocating buyers never see it at all.

Can I buy without flying out repeatedly?

Yes. Video walkthroughs where I'm in the house telling you what the photos leave out, remote signing, and vendors coordinated here. I've handled sales for owners who never came back for a showing.

Does the ZIP code tell me the school?

No, and this is the neighborhood where that assumption most often goes wrong. Assignment follows the address. Confirm it for the specific property before you write an offer.

Del Rey

What relocation looks like in Del Rey

One of the more affordable pockets of the Westside, inland of the Marina, with the Ballona Creek bike path along its southern edge.

Del Rey is the Westside neighborhood most people can't place on a map, which is exactly why it still represents value.

The homes
A 2.7-square-mile pocket of post-war single-story homes, low apartment courts, light industrial blocks, and newer infill. The historic grid around Glencoe, Alla, Inglewood, and McConnell is what locals mean when they say Del Rey. North of Washington the stock is original 1940s and 50s single-family with more remodels.
Why people choose it
Buyers who want Westside access without Mar Vista or Marina pricing.
Schools people ask about
LAUSD assignments apply throughout, including in the northeast quadrant that feels close to Culver City. Buyers regularly assume Culver schools and are wrong. Worth checking the assignment before writing an offer.
Getting around
Lincoln Blvd runs the western edge; Washington, Culver, and Jefferson are the main arterials. The Ballona Creek bike path puts the beach about 20 minutes away by bike.
Nearby
Bill Rosendahl Del Rey Park at 4601 Alla, the Ballona Creek bike path, downtown Culver City just over the eastern line, and the Marina two blocks west of Lincoln.
The trade-off
You give up the walkable retail of Mar Vista and the water frontage of the Marina. You get materially lower pricing for a location between both. USPS often addresses Del Rey homes as Marina del Rey 90292, which confuses buyers constantly.
