Questions to Ask a Listing Agent Before You Sell Your Westside LA Home

The part sellers underestimate
The biggest fear I hear from sellers is simple. They are afraid the agent will sign them up, then disappear. It happens, and it happens most to people selling a long-held home during a life change, exactly when they need the opposite. The interview is how you protect yourself. Here are the questions that tell you who you are really hiring.
1. How did you arrive at this price?
You want comparable sales on your streets and a clear explanation, not a flattering number with nothing behind it. An agent who quotes high to win the listing, then pushes for cuts later, is the most common and costliest trap. See what your home is actually worth for how a real number gets built.
2. What exactly will you do to market my home?
Putting it on the MLS and holding an open house is not a marketing plan. Ask for specifics. Custom property website? Professional photo, video, twilight, and drone? AI-targeted ad campaigns to pre-qualified buyers? Retargeting? A Coming Soon pre-launch? If the answer is vague, the marketing will be too.
3. Who actually handles my sale, you or an assistant?
On a busy team, you can sign with a name and never speak to that person again. Ask who walks your home, who answers your calls, and who is at the table. With me, the answer is me. I stay in touch.
4. How will you keep me updated, and how do I reach you?
Get the communication plan in plain terms. How often will you hear from them, through what channel, and what happens when you call. This one question prevents the ghosting that sellers fear most.
5. Who manages the vendors and the details?
Cleaning, repairs, media, sign install, lender coordination, escrow. Will you be chasing contractors and forwarding emails, or will the agent handle the chain? I run concierge vendor management on every file so you handle none of it, and I handle staging myself.
6. What is your experience with my situation?
Downsizing, inheritance, divorce, widowhood, an out-of-state sale. These carry practical and emotional weight. Ask whether the agent has done it before. One of my sellers handled an out-of-state rental sale entirely from another state because I took care of everything that came up. Experience with your exact situation matters.
7. Can I talk to your recent clients?
References tell you what working with someone is actually like. My business is built on referrals, and clients consistently point to the same thing: I handle everything and I stay reachable. When you are ready, here is the full guide to selling a Westside Los Angeles home.

If you want to talk it through
Selling is a long list of small decisions, and most sellers make them alone. That is the part First Key Pacific takes off your plate in Playa del Rey. When you are ready to talk it through, reach out and we will map it out properly.
Common questions
- What is the most important question to ask a listing agent?
- How they arrived at the price, and whether they can show comparable sales behind it. A high number with nothing supporting it usually means the agent is buying the listing and will push for cuts later.
- How do I know if an agent will actually be available?
- Ask directly who handles your sale, who answers your calls, and who will be at the table. On large teams the person you sign with is not always the person who shows up. With me, it is me, and I stay in touch.
- Should I interview more than one agent?
- Yes. Interview a few, ask each the same questions, and compare the substance of the answers, not just who quotes the highest price. The differences in marketing and service will be obvious.
- What should a real marketing plan include?
- Specifics: a custom property website, professional photo and video including twilight and drone, AI-targeted ad campaigns to pre-qualified buyers, retargeting, and a Coming Soon pre-launch. If the answer is vaguer than that, ask for specifics.
